Retains position as most popular antivirus download
Brno, January 15th 2008 - GRISOFT, developer of the AVG range of security software, announced that its anti-virus program, AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, was downloaded more than 1,000,000 times from CNET Download website (http://www.download.com/3101-2023-0-1.html) in the week between Christmas and New Year and also in the week from January 1st to the 7th 2008.
In addition, a record number of new users downloaded AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition directly from GRISOFT's own servers in the same time period.
The consistently high number of downloads reinforces the product's continuing and growing appeal to users. AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition has approached the one million downloads per week mark a number of times in the past and the product remains the most popular application at Download.com.
"Computer users recognize that the Internet can be a dangerous place for the unwary", says Karel Obluk, CTO at GRISOFT. "They are always on the lookout for the best protection, and millions of visitors to Download.com have found it - in AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. And the forthcoming integration of Exploit Prevention Labs' LinkScanner technology into the AVG product range will further improve that protection."
GRISOFT acquired Exploit Prevention Labs in December 2007 and will incorporate their LinkScanner technology in the AVG product line, including AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. Among benefits users will gain from LinkScanner technology are real-time warnings about poisoned web pages before they visit the page and protection against drive-by downloads and exploits.
The commercial AVG products are available through an extensive network of distributors, resellers, and business partners as well as through CNET Download and the company's website at www.avg.com. With the commercial product range, users receive free program updates and 24/7 technical support for the full duration of the license.
